Man arrested after 'four-day crime spree' in McLennan County, Sheriff's Office says

The McLennan County Sheriff's Office said the alleged crime spree involved "multiple stolen vehicles and a golf cart".

MCLENNAN COUNTY, Texas — A McLennan County man has been arrested after a "four-day crime spree" across several cities, according to the McLennan County Sheriff's Office (MCSO).

Sheriff Parnell McNamara said MCSO arrested Tanner Kyle Engelbrecht on Sept. 2 after a multi-day search across multiple local areas.

According to MCSO, Bruceville-Eddy Police responded to a domestic disturbance along 1st Street on Aug. 30. While heading to the scene, officers reportedly saw Engelbrecht leaving in an allegedly stolen Ford pickup.

The officers attempted to stop the truck, but Engelbrecht "evaded" and was able to get away, said MCSO.

Later that day, officers reportedly learned that Engelbrecht was trying to get back to the victim of the domestic disturbance. Police reportedly found Engelbrecht driving a stolen Dodge pickup and tried to stop him. During a pursuit, Engelbrecht lost control of the vehicle, crashed into a fence and fled on foot into a wooded area, MCSO said.

MCSO Deputies, a K9 and a drone operator reportedly searched the area before officers received information that Engelbrecht was believed to have stolen a Toyota pickup from a nearby home.

The search for Engelbrecht continued until Sept. 2, said MCSO, when deputies received back-to-back reports of a stolen golf cart and a stolen Dodge pickup with a trailer still attached.

Deputies reportedly later found Engelbrecht driving the stolen Dodge pickup, without the trailer, in Speegleville. Deputies again attempted to stop the vehicle, said MCSO, but Engelbrecht again "evaded" them. Because of the weather, deputies did not pursue Engelbrecht "for the safety of the general public".

MCSO stated deputies found the stolen Dodge pickup, unoccupied, in Crawford "within an hour". Crawford Police reportedly contacted residents in the area and learned that a person matching Engelbrecht's description had been seen walking down the road.

Crawford Police reportedly searched the area and found Engelbrecht carrying a small sledgehammer, said MCSO. Engelbrecht allegedly fled to a nearby property upon seeing police, and was found by deputies hiding behind an outbuilding on the property.

Engelbrecht was taken into custody without incident, said MCSO. He was reportedly found in possession of methamphetamine and "prescription-controlled substances". He faces multiple charges, including theft, evading arrest, possession of controlled substances and interfering with an emergency request for assistance, according to the Sheriff's Office.
