Teen arrested in connection to Temple shooting released, charges dropped

Temple police said a 17-year-old who was arrested was later released and the shooting remained under investigation.

TEMPLE, Texas — The Temple Police Department said a 17-year-old arrested in connection to a shooting on Aug. 10 was released and no longer charged with the crime. 

According to police, officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 400 block of West Ave. E at about 10:55 p.m. 

Police said they found a man with a gunshot wound at the scene. He was taken to Baylor Scott and White in critical condition. 

Witnesses identified a person as the shooter. He was arrested and taken to the Bell County Jail. However, Temple police told 6 News Tuesday the Bell County District Attorney "deferred the case and requested a further investigation be done." The teen was released from jail and was not charged. 6 News is no longer identifying the person.
