Man arrested, charged in connection to June 21 Waco shooting

WACO, Texas — A man who was allegedly shot in Waco on June 21 has died of his injuries, according to the Waco Police Department. A suspect has reportedly been arrested and charged in connection to the shooting.

Waco PD stated 46-year-old Tony Alexander was shot around 3:50 p.m. on Friday, June 21 in the 2500 block of Summer Avenue.

Alexander was reportedly taken to a local hospital in critical condition. Police later provided an update that Alexander died of his injuries on June 23. Next of kin have reportedly been notified.

According to Waco PD, 31-year-old Nathan Smith was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon on June 21 in connection to the shooting.

Police say the investigation is still ongoing and "more charges are forthcoming". 

This is reportedly Waco PD's ninth homicide investigation of 2024.
