LOTT, Texas — Lott resident Carol Shaw and her family have been at risk of losing their home after hiring Clayton Construction back in October 2021 to build her family's dream barndominium on their land.
Shaw says she spent over $80,000 out of pocket. However, the job was never completed and requests from the owner of the company, Clayton Yost, went unheard.
Not long after, home loans began piling up and a lien was put on Shaw's home, causing her debt to grow even larger.
Shaw says the total amount owed to the state reached around $290,000 and the home was scheduled to be auctioned off on Feb. 6. However, on Tuesday, Jan. 30, Shaw told 6 News that the auction had been called off after a visit with their attorney.
According to Shaw, their attorney is still working with the bank to get an extension, which would allow them to stay in the home.
6 News reported on Clayton Yost and his company Clayton Construction as a 6 Fix story over a year ago. According to court documents, Yost filed Chapter 11 Bankruptcy on Saturday, Sept. 23, 2023. Yost is also over $5.7 million in debt, owing customers, other companies and banks, according to court documents.
There have been at least 20 alleged victims of Yost and at least five people have filed lawsuits against Yost and his company.
