KILLEEN, Texas — A late-night police chase in Killeen ended with the driver crashing through multiple backyard fences and later dying from his injuries, according to the Killeen Police Department.
Police say the pursuit began Wednesday evening around 9:47 p.m. after officers tried to stop a driver of a Chevrolet Cruze near East Stan Schlueter Loop and East Elms Road for a defective headlight. The driver refused to stop, police said, leading officers on a pursuit from Chantz to Modesto Road to E. Trimmier Road and finally to Stagecoach Road.
The chase eventually came to an end near Stagecoach Road and Bear River Trail after the car and driver ran off the road and crashed through two backyard fences. Although life-saving measures were taken by authorities to help the driver, identified as 25-year-old Carlos Joseph Christian, he was eventually pronounced dead by Justice of the Peace Gregory Johnson at 10:04 p.m.
Police say an investigation into the crash is ongoing and have not provided any further information related to the incident.
