Killeen Police identify victim in June 13 early morning shooting

Police say there is no threat to the community in relation to the incident.

KILLEEN, Texas — A woman is dead and a 27-year-old man is in custody after a shooting that took place just after midnight on Thursday, June 13, according to Killeen Police.

The shooting was reported in the 2800 block of Tucker Drive around 12:25 a.m., according to police. When officers and Killeen EMS arrived at the scene, a woman--recently identified as Nicole Isabell Gairey, 53--was found outside of a home and had been shot more than once.

Gairey died from her injuries shortly after and was pronounced dead by Justice of the Peace Nicola James at 12:30 a.m. at the crime scene. A 27-year-old man was also at the home where the shooting took place was placed under arrest and taken to the Killeen City Jail. 

The man has since been released and no charges have been filed as of Tuesday, a Killeen PD representative tells 6 News.

Police say there is no threat to the community in relation to the incident that took place, and that detectives with the Robbery-Homicide Unit are actively investigating the case.
