MILAM COUNTY, Texas — Milam County authorities are investigating three separate attempted child abductions that took place on Feb. 13 and Feb. 15, prompting an increase in patrols near schools.
Milam County Sheriff Mike Clore said that two incidents were reported near Thorndale Independent School District, with the third near Milano Independent School District. Students involved in this case were not taken, officers said.
In one instance on Tuesday Feb. 13, a student was driving home and believed she was being followed. On Thursday Feb. 15, a white Honda Accord carrying a male and female, both described as Hispanic, followed students.
In Milano, a tan male in a blue pickup truck allegedly approached a female student, urging her to enter the vehicle or be forced in. The student managed to run way, prompting the vehicle to depart.
Thorndale ISD has released a statement following the news since the initial PSA was put out, thanking the sheriff's office for their efforts and response, and echoed officials' recommendations for parents to tell their children to be vigilant and aware of their surroundings.
In response to the incidents, the Milam County Sheriff’s Office, along with partner agencies, will heighten their presence at all county schools on Friday, Feb. 16. Parents are encouraged to educate their children about vigilance and to promptly report unfamiliar approaches.
Sheriff Clore urges the community to report any suspicious activity to authorities.
