HILL COUNTY, Texas — The Hill County Sheriff's Office is warning residents of a phone scam where a person claims to be an employee of the Sheriff's Office.
The Sheriff's Office said they had at least six calls about the scam on July 30 alone.
According to the Sheriff's Office, the scammer tells the victim they have some sort of legal issue, like a warrant, that can be resolved by sending money via transfer.
The Sheriff's Office said at least one person has been scammed out of "a significant sum of money".
The Hill County Sheriff's Office said it will never solicit money from citizens, and warns residents not to fall for the scam.
