FORT CAVAZOS, Texas — Christopher Meza a former soldier from Fort Cavazos, TX, was found guilty after a two-day jury trial in the U.S. District Court in Bangor.
According to officials, the charges against him include one count of enticement of a child, two counts of traveling with intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct, and two counts of transportation with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity.
The evidence presented during the trial revealed that between February and December 2021, Meza interacted with a 13-year-old from Maine on an online gaming platform. According to officials, their conversations included explicit content, and Meza was aware of the victim's age. Meza twice traveled from Texas to Maine to meet with the victim, who was then 14 years old, and on both occasions, he successfully left the state with the victim.
According to officials, of the five counts Meza was found guilty, three carry a minimum sentence of ten years and a maximum of life in prison, the remaining two counts have maximum penalties of 30 years.
A federal district judge will determine Meza's sentence, taking into account the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other factors.
