Falls County residents warned of phone scam impersonating law enforcement

It is important to note that no legitimate law enforcement agency will ever solicit money or items over the phone to resolve warrants.

MARLIN, Texas — The Falls County Sheriff's Office has issued a warning to residents regarding a scam targeting individuals in the area.

Reports have surfaced of several people receiving phone calls that display the caller ID as either the Sheriff's Office or other law enforcement agencies.

The callers claim that the recipient or their loved ones have outstanding warrants and demand immediate payment or gift cards to avoid arrest. In some instances, the scammers threaten arrest if the recipient attempts to hang up and contact their local police.

It is important to note that no legitimate law enforcement agency will ever solicit money or items over the phone to resolve warrants.

Residents are urged to exercise caution and skepticism when receiving such calls.

If you receive a suspicious call or believe you have been a victim of this scam, please contact your local law enforcement agency immediately. The Falls County Sheriff's Office can be reached at 254-803-1000.
