Driver suspected in Aug. 6 Rogers crash turns himself in to police

The crash left 50-year-old Juan Martinez in critical condition.

ROGERS, Texas — The driver suspect that fled the scene of a major crash that severely injured a man on Aug. 6 has turned himself in to police in Milam county.

53-year-old José Salvador Martinez from Mission, TX turned himself in on charges of unsafe speed, failing to secure load and failing to stop and render aid involving injury collision.

50-year-old Juan Martinez was critically injured in the crash and was medically evacuated by helicopter to Baylor Scott & White in Temple.

According to the family of 50-year-old Juan Martinez, the pickup towing the cars was driving around the curve fast as Martinez was also making the curve in the opposite direction. The cars the pickup was towing allegedly fell off the trailer, landing on Martinez's car.

Britney Yearian, Juan Martinez's daughter-in-law, detailed the horrific accident.

"The vehicles flew off the big truck trailer and flew in my father-in-law's and crushed his vehicle," Yearian said. "Crushed it pretty bad."

Juan Martinez's family tells 6 News his intestines were hanging out after the accident.

"He went into surgery that night," Yearian said. "Then went into surgery the next morning."

With the driver turning himself into police, the family now has the answers they were searching for as Juan Martinez continues to recover from the accident.
