Dallas PD said its preliminary investigation revealed a large crowd gathered in the area, and the group of people started following the victim.

DALLAS — A 17-year-old was shot and killed Friday night after a fight broke out between him and another person, Dallas police said.

The Dallas Police Department (DPD) said officers responded at approximately 10:50 p.m. Friday to the 8000 block of Polk Street. DPD said its preliminary investigation revealed a large crowd gathered in the area, and the group of people started following the victim, David Washington. A fight broke out between them, DPD said, and "an unknown suspect shot Washington."

Dallas police arrested a 16-year-old and charged them with Washington's murder on Saturday, Sept. 8, police said in a press release.

Washington was transported to a local hospital, where he died, according to DPD. Dallas ISD officials confirmed to WFAA that Washington was a senior at Justin F. Kimball High School within their district.
