BRYAN, Texas — A College Station man will spend the next decade and a half in prison for a burglary and assault that took place in the spring at a Texas A&M residence hall.

According to the Brazos County District Attorney's Office, Christian Young snuck into a residence hall on Texas A&M campus on April 14 by grabbing the door of while it was closing behind unsuspecting students.

He then made his way into the dorm room of a stranger and threatened her with a pair of scissors, pinning her onto a bed and trying to muffle her scream by putting his hand over her mouth. The victim managed to fight Young off, and he fled while she sought her other suitemates that were around to report what Young had done.

A police investigation into the incident revealed that in addition to Young's assault, he had stolen money from the girls' wallets. However, security footage was able to clearly identify Young as he entered the residence hall, and other police agencies began to search for him to arrest him.

The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office was able to use a facial recognition software that matched Young to an employee at a local fast food restaurant. Further investigation into his time sheets was able to prove he was responsible for the assault on April 14. After being arrested, Young also confessed what he had done to police.

"The victim awoke to a nightmare but responded with courage," said Assistant District Attorney Kevin Capps in a press release on Young being sentenced. "We all have the right to be safe in our homes, and certainly while asleep in our beds. Christian Young destroyed that safety, and he is now headed to prison where he belongs."
