Bruceville-Eddy man arrested for Capital Murder after shooting

Police said two people were allegedly shot in the area of Mackey Ranch Road on Oct. 5.

BRUCEVILLE-EDDY, Texas — Two people are dead and a suspect is in custody after an alleged shooting in Bruceville-Eddy on Saturday, Oct. 5, according to an affidavit from the Bruceville-Eddy Police Department.

Bruceville-Eddy PD stated Romi Frentescu was arrested on a Capital Murder charge for the shooting.

According to the affidavit, a Bruceville-Eddy police officer, with the help of a second officer, were called to the intersection of Mackey Ranch Road and Old Moody Road in Eddy around 7:21 p.m. on Oct. 5 in reference to a shooting.

When the officers arrived, they reportedly found a woman doing CPR on a man who was bleeding and not breathing. The woman reportedly told police she was a nurse and had found the man lying on the ground, but was not sure what had happened.

Police identified the victim as Michael Morris, and said he was not responsive when they arrived on scene. A second victim, identified as Braxton Johnson, was also reportedly found in a grassy area by 6569 Mackey Ranch Rd.

Police said they and the woman performed CPR and first aid on the victims until an AMR ambulance and the Bruceville-Eddy Fire Department arrived and took over.

According to police, Morris died on the scene and Johnson was taken to Baylor Scott & White Hospital where he died.

According to the affidavit, the woman told police there was a white vehicle stopped at the scene before she arrived, and a man in the vehicle told her the victim had been shot. She said she started CPR while the man in the vehicle called 911.

The woman reportedly told police that while she was performing CPR, a red pickup truck, possibly a Chevrolet, pulled up, and a man got out and told her to stop doing CPR because "he wanted the man to die".

The woman said the man got back in his truck and left the scene. Police said they identified the man as Frentescu. He was reportedly wearing a vest of the Cossack motorcycle club.

The woman's husband, who was in the vehicle with her at the time, said they were driving down Mackey Ranch Road when he noticed a white pickup, which he said was a GMC Sierra, with damage to the front driver side and a large black cruiser motorcycle, a Harley Davidson, on its side under the truck, according to the affidavit.

The man said while his wife was doing CPR, a red truck pulled up on the scene and a man "threatened" her before getting back in the red truck and leaving.

The husband reportedly told police that he gave a ride to a man who said he needed to notify Morris' family about what happened. He reportedly gave the man a ride to a home on Hodge Lane. He said he did not know the man's involvement in the situation, but was later told that he was the driver of the GMC Sierra.

The affidavit states a homeowner on Mackey Ranch Road told police they saw a black motorcycle stop at the intersection of Mackey Ranch Road and Old Moody Road around 7 p.m., which was followed by Morris.

The homeowner said about 10 minutes later, they heard "around 5-6 shots". One witness reportedly told police he saw a white truck "swerve through the intersection and then saw the shooter run towards a red Silverado and drive down Old Moody Road.

The homeowner said the shooter was a passenger in the red pickup and saw a gun in his hand, according to the affidavit. The homeowner said they called 911 and the shooter came back, getting in the red pickup wearing a Cossack Motorcycle Club vest.

According to police, Frentescu called 911 and said he was "jumped by several people" on his way home. Frentescu was reportedly detained by McLennan County Sheriff's Deputies and was brought to the McLennan County Jail for questioning.

According to the affidavit, Frentescu told police the incident started while he was at his home earlier that evening and Morris "pulled up in front of his house and flipped him off", prompting Frentescu to follow him.

Frentescu and Morris allegedly got into a fight, during which Frentescu claimed Morris pulled a switchblade and someone driving a GMC Sierra allegedly attempted to run Frentescu over. Frentescu claimed another man punched him in the head, knocking him down, prompting him to pull out a pistol and start firing, claiming he was surrounded by multiple people.

Frentescu said the shots were fired in self-defense, and claimed he called 911 after the incident.

In the affidavit, Police claim there were "discrepancies" in Frentescu's statement. Police said a gun was found at Frentescu's home and the ammunition recovered at the scene matched the ammunition that was found at Frentescu's home.
