Brazos County district clerk arrested on assault charge

Garcia, 36, was arrested at 5:43 a.m. and booked into the Brazos County Jail. His bond was set at $5,000.

BRYAN, Texas — Brazos County District Clerk Gabriel Andre Garcia was arrested early Saturday morning on a charge of assault causing bodily injury-family violence, according to a probable cause statement. 

Garcia, 36, was arrested at 5:43 a.m. and booked into the Brazos County Jail. His bond was set at $5,000. 

The circumstances surrounding the arrest were not detailed in the probable cause statement released on Saturday, August 17. Additional information is expected to be available once an arrest report is filed.

In a statement, Brazos County Judge Duane Peters acknowledged the arrest.

“Brazos County officials are aware of the arrest of District Clerk Gabriel Garcia. A charge against an elected official is deeply concerning, but as this is a legal matter, we cannot comment on any details at this time.  The district clerk’s office is fully staffed and will continue to provide professional customer service.  We will provide further information as it is available."
