Scams being shared after Bosque Animal Rescue Kennels Facebook page hacked, shelter warns

Followers are warned against clicking any links or sharing any information.

BOSQUE COUNTY, Texas — Residents in Bosque County may have seen some unusual posts on the Bosque Animal Rescue Kennels (BARK) Facebook page asking for money or sharing links to donate. BARK and other Central Texans are warning people not to click those links.

BARK confirmed to 6 News that their Facebook page has been hacked since Friday, July 5, and the hacker has been sharing things like pictures of pure-bred dogs supposedly up for adoption and links to give money ever since.

Residents are warned against clicking any links or filling out any applications on the page. BARK says the links are scams, and the "urgent applications" are likely attempts to get followers' information.

BARK is not the first shelter to see this kind of hack. 6 News investigated the posts and discovered the same posts with the same puppy pictures have shown up on social media pages of multiple animal shelters across the country over the past few months, including shelters in Ohio, Michigan, Florida and even the SPCA East Texas.

At the time of writing, BARK said they still did not have control of the page. If you have entered information into one of the links, contact your local police department.
