BELLMEAD, Texas — A years-long hit-and-run case that has gone unsolved has had a significant breakthrough.
In 2017, Jana McElyea was killed in a hit-and-run accident that went unsolved for years. However, earlier in the year, detectives learned of key information that allowed them to identify a suspect.
Officials say the suspect, identified as Omar Dominguez Martinez, is responsible for the hit-and-run that took place on July 3, 2017 near New Dallas Highway and Montrose Street. He was located and has been taken into custody.
According to McLennan County Jail Records, he is being charged with Collision Involving Death, a second-degree felony. His bail has been set at $25,000, according to McLennan County Jail Records.
"Through the tireless efforts of our Criminal Investigations Division and the collaboration of concerned citizens, additional information came to light, leading investigators to Martinez," Bellmead Police said in a Facebook post announcing the recent breakthrough in the case. "We are deeply grateful for the unwavering support from our community and the relentless dedication of our officers in seeking justice for Jana and her loved ones."
