Kidnapping report on Baylor campus "unfounded" after investigation, police say

"Through an extensive BUPD investigation, it has been determined the reported incident did not occur and the case has been unfounded," the update stated.

WACO, Texas — An alert was sent to students from the Baylor University Police Department (BUPD) in regard to a reported kidnapping on Wednesday, Oct. 16.

BUPD has since provided an update to the situation, stating the kidnapping did not occur after investigating the report.

"Through an extensive BUPD investigation, it has been determined the reported incident did not occur and the case has been unfounded," the update stated.

The initial alert reported the incident happened around 2:10 p.m. that day.

According to the Texas Penal Code, filing a false report to law enforcement can be investigated and potential charges can be pursued.

Police still urge students, faculty and staff members to be alert and aware of their surroundings, and to immediately report suspicious activity by calling 911, BUPD at 254-710-2222, or reporting it via the BU Campus Guardian app.
