BRYAN, Texas — A kidnapping suspect was shot during an officer involved shooting in Bryan early in the morning on Saturday, Aug. 31.
According to information from the Bryan Police Department, that morning around 1:35 a.m., officers went to an apartment complex in the 600 block of South Ennis Street in Bryan for a report of an aggravated kidnapping.
Around 2:44 a.m., officers found the suspect after a search of the apartment complex. He shot at an officer multiple times while "physically controlling" the victim and the officer returned fire, hitting him. The suspect, Kevin Henriquez, 23, of Houston, fled the scene in a car, but was found by officers a short distance away from where the shooting took place in the 800 block of South Texas Avenue.
Henriquez was arrested and also looked at by medical staff before being taken and booked into the Brazos County Jail. He has been charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon on a Police Officer, Aggravated Kidnapping, and Assault Family Violence. His bonds total $380,000, according to Brazos County Jail Records.
According to Bryan PD, Henriquez and the victim are in a dating relationship. The victim and officer that were involved received had minor injuries that didn't require medical treatment from the officer involved shooting.
The officer that was involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave pending the conclusion of an administrative investigation, per the policy of the Bryan Police Department. Police say the officer will not be identified until the administrative investigation has finished.
Bryan Police say they are investigating the criminal complaints surrounding the Aggravated Assault charges and Family Violence, while the investigation of the officer involved shooting part of the incident is being handled by the Texas Rangers.
