Update: Suspect dead in Killeen's Southside area officer-involved shooting

Chief Pete Pedro Lopez of the Killeen PD said that the shooting started with a domestic violence call at 5:39 a.m.

KILLEEN, Texas — An armed suspect is dead following an officer-involved shooting in Killeen Friday morning, according to the Killeen Police Department.

Killeen Police Chief Pete Pedro Lopez said the shooting started with a domestic violence call at 5:39 a.m. that came from the 900 block of Southside.

At 5:50 a.m., officers arrived at the intersection of Southside Drive and Florence Road, where they saw two individuals in the street. One of them had stab wounds, while the other was armed with a knife.

According to officers responding to the threat, officers shot their guns. This led to the death of the armed suspect, police said.

Emergency medical care was given to to the stabbing victim. According to officials, the stabbing victim is in stable condition.

The Texas Rangers have taken the lead in investigating the shooting, and the Killeen Police Department has started an internal investigation.
