WACO, Texas — An arrest affidavit revealed details into the alleged murder of 31-year-old Adam Rodriguez on April 14.
According to the document, Waco PD responded to the report of a man down at 724 Neil Drive, near an apartment complex, around 10:50 a.m. that day.
Upon arrival, officers found Rodriguez laying in front of a Dodge Ram truck with multiple bullet casings in the area. American Medical Response checked on Rodriguez and confirmed he was dead, the affidavit states.
According to the affidavit, the truck's passenger door was open and had multiple bullet dents or holes on the hood. Prescription medication that was prescribed to a woman was found in the center console, the affidavit says.
Local records showed the woman, whose name was on the pill bottle, had been involved in an incident in February 2024 at an apartment in the complex, affidavit details.
According to the affidavit, officers attempted a welfare check on anyone in the apartment as they did not know if anyone was injured inside.
The affidavit states officers cleared the apartment and found a gun box in the bedroom closet. A search warrant was then obtained and while executing it, officers were able to determine the empty gun box fit the type of gun that fires the same caliber bullets found at the crime scene. Live rounds that matched the casings of the ones at the crime scene were also found in the apartment.
According to the affidavit, during the investigation, officers learned that 31-year-old Mauricio Campuzano Jr. had been seen with a handgun on the night of April 13. It was also noted that Campuzano and Rodriguez had tension between them because of a woman.
The affidavit says the two men had been drinking alcohol at different locations prior to the alleged murder. They reportedly both left a bar and went to a relative's house and stayed until about 3 a.m. before leaving.
According to the affidavit, Campuzano went to his parent's home early in the morning on April 14, reportedly acting nervous and telling his mother and father that he loved them while crying before he left to an unknown location.
Campuzano was arrested and charged with murder on April 15.
