A motorcycle hit and run investigation that left a Fort Cavazos soldier dead in 2023 has a new development, as one man was arrested in Bryan on Wednesday, according to Killeen PD.

On Tuesday, June 11, exactly one year after the hit and run crash, a case was presented to the Bell County District Attorney's Office charging Taylor with Collision Involving Death, a second-degree felony.

One year prior, in the 1900 block of East Elms Road in Killeen, police were notified of a crash in the area around 2:31 a.m. When officers arrived at the scene, they found a man lying in the roadway with serious injuries.

The victim, Eric Rucker, was traveling west on East Elms Road when he stopped to retrieve an item that he had dropped in the roadway. He was hit by a smaller gray sedan, and was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Nicola James at 3:21 a.m.

Police say they were able to identify the suspect, Kristopher Taylor Jr., 47, after an "extensive joint investigation with the Fort Cavazos Criminal Investigation Division."

Authorities were able to locate and arrest Taylor in Bryan the day after the case was presented to the district attorney's office with the assistance of the United States Marshals Service-Lone Star Fugitive Task Force without incident.
