SAN ANTONIO — Brutally attacked while being called homophobic slurs, a San Antonio man said a group of people left he and his friend bruised and bloody while bar hopping downtown.
Now he's hoping the public can help find who did this to him.
It was on North Main that Flores said those people started following him and his friend. They were just leaving the bars Saturday night, hoping to get Whataburger downtown, when suddenly he said the car cut them off while they were riding an electric scooter together.
“I was thrown to the ground, my head hit the curb, I was kicked multiple times by the guys," Flores said.
Bloody and bruised Rico Flores ended his night Saturday in a way no one ever should.
“They continued to beat us and kick us…even to a point where we weren’t even fighting…we were just trying to get away.”
Flores knew something was wrong when he noticed a car following he and his friend from the strip all the way to Presa and Commerce only a block from SAPD.
“And then we tried to avoid them…they still cut us off.”
Everything changed at that turn when he said a few men jumped out of that car.
“They started calling us slurs because we are gay men."
He said as they threw punches the men called them words that started with 'f' and a homophobic slur that started with an 'f.' Flores said he remembered them saying that when they were kicking him on the ground.
The men drove off but he grabbed a picture of their car and got a license plate the police report said does not match the description of the car in the picture.
“Many gays…Trans people…any people of the spectrum of LGBTQIA…this is frequent."
As Flores recovers, he said it could have been a lot worse.
“For a lot of people it doesn’t turn out that way…but I'm also grateful it did turn out that way for me.”
Which is why with this story he hopes people put a little more focus on the good.
“People do want to help and there is good in the world and I don’t want it to be overshadowed.”
Police don't have a description of the suspects.
