WACO, Texas — The Waco Animal Shelter is calling on local residents to donate summer items to keep shelter dogs cool as temperatures stay in the triple digits.
The shelter is asking for an array of items including kiddie pools for the dogs to cool off in, shelf-stable wet food to make "pupsicles", frisbees and Benebone-type chew toys.
Donations can be dropped off at the Waco Animal Shelter, as well as any of the four Waco-McLennan County Library locations.
If residents want to go a step a further and adopt a shelter pet, the fees are $100 for animals under one year old, $70 over one year old and free for any animal over the age of five. More details on adoption can be found here.
This event comes just days after the shelter waived reclaim fees for lost pets through July 13 after a number of pets were lost during the July 4 festivities.
