'More than just a job' | Waco Police hiring 911 dispatchers

Waco PD said pay starts between $23-$25 an hour with a $6,000 new hire bonus.

WACO, Texas — Looking for a new job? The Waco Police Department may have one for you.

Waco PD announced the department is currently hiring 911 dispatchers. According to the department, the position is "more than just a job, it's an opportunity to serve and protect your community".

As a 911 Telecommunicator, applicants will play a critical role in public safety, said Waco PD. When people are in need of immediate assistance, dispatchers are who they will reach out to. A dispatcher's ability to respond promptly and efficiently can make "all the difference in emergency situations", said Waco PD.

The department described the job as requiring "excellent communication skills and the ability to stay calm under pressure."

Starting pay is reportedly between $23-$25 an hour based on customer service experience, with a $6,000 new hire bonus.

Some requirements of the position include a High School Diploma or GED equivalent and the ability to pass a psychological exam and a criminal background check, among others. Applicants must be available to work varying shifts, which may include nights, weekends, holidays and overtime, said Waco PD.
