Waco's 2024 Battle of the Badges Blood Drive collects 319 units of blood

Community members reportedly donated 319 units of blood, enough to save up to 957 lives.

WACO, Texas — The 2024 Battle of the Badges Blood Drive between the Waco Police Department, Waco Fire Department and McLennan County Sheriff's Office has crowned its champion.

With the help of Carter BloodCare, the blood drive, which kicked off Aug. 17 and ran to Aug. 31, encouraged community members to stop by and donate blood while showing support for their first responders. It also served as a competition between the three agencies to see who could rally the most donations in their name.

And the winner is... the Waco Police Department!

Waco PD announced their victory on Wednesday, Sept. 18.

According to Waco PD, the drive gathered 319 units of blood, enough to save up to 957 lives, surpassing the initial goal of 300 units.

Waco PD thanked Carter BloodCare for organizing the annual drive, the Fire Department and Sheriff's Office for their participation and all those who donated to save lives.
