WACO, Texas — The City of Waco wants to lend a helping hand as the municipal court is once again offering amnesty for Class C misdemeanor criminal cases where the punishment upon conviction is only a fine.
The amnesty would waive late fees attached to tickets and arrest warrants that have been issues as a result for the rest of July.
For those facing fees and fines the Waco municipal judge said they would be willing to waive those financial penalties or work with residents to resolve their outstanding citations by offering payment alternatives.
For those seeking amnesty with an active warrant the municipal court will continue to work with them to clear that warrant and set them up on a payment plan for fees, arrange community service or an indigency waiver.
But there are factors that the court is going to consider before granting amnesty based off of an applicants financial situation, the age and number of citations one's looking to waive and the total amount of money owed in fines to the city.
The amnesty applications are currently available in the front lobby of the municipal court and can be put in the drop box inside. Once they are completed the court will contact an applicant about the date and time they can come back to the court for their agreement to be processed.
