WACO, Texas — Do you have an overdue library book? For one month, the Waco-McLennan County Library is willing to forgive it.
The library is hosting Fine Forgiveness Month through the month of September, an amnesty program where the library will waive all overdue fines for library materials returned to any branch from Sept. 1-30.
According to the Library, cardholders can return overdue books to any of the four locations and the library will forgive all overdue fines, reactivate any suspended library cards and waive replacement card fees.
Patrons can also reportedly have another cardholder's fines forgiven if they return library materials for them. Parents and guardians can also have fines forgiven for children if they are the guardian on the child's account.
The offer does not include damaged book replacements, fines and fees associated with Interlibrary Loans, copies, scans, faxes or non-resident and short-term resident fees, the library stated. Lost or missing items must be returned or replaced before fines can be forgiven.
“We want to remove barriers to library access and encourage everyone to rediscover the joy of reading,” said Waco Library Director Roberto Zapata. “Fine Forgiveness Month is an opportunity for our community to reconnect with their library and explore all that we have to offer.”
