Waco issues mandatory water restrictions due to pump failure

This restriction is for all Waco water customers, including wholesale customers and their water users.

WACO, Texas — The City of Waco has issued mandatory outdoor watering restrictions, effective immediately until Sunday at 7 a.m.

This restriction is for all Waco water customers, including wholesale customers and their water users. The restrictions came in response to a water pump failure that has caused low pressure in the water line.

According to city officials, a high-service pump at the City of Waco Mt. Carmel Water Treatment Plant suffered a mechanical failure late June 27.

This pump malfunction occurred approximately two weeks after it was returned to service following a complete third-party overhaul. Additionally, another pump at the facility was damaged by lightning in late March 2024 and is expected to return to service during the week of July 1.

Customers are also urged to reduce water consumption to conserve water for households, hospitals, and emergencies.

The City of Waco asks the community to conserve water to allow city employees to fill water storages over the next 48 hours. Updates will be provided as they become available.

The City of West is also asking residents to cease all outdoor watering for the next 48 hours as they get some of their water from Waco, while the City of Woodway has also issued mandatory water restrictions requiring customers to stop outdoor watering until Monday, July 1.
