WACO, Texas — Craig U. Goodman, a seasoned law enforcement veteran with nearly two decades of experience, has been appointed as the new Chief of Police for Waco Independent School District.

This will be effective Monday, June 17.

Goodman's extensive background includes serving as the Deputy Chief of Police at the University of Texas system in Nacogdoches and as the Chief of Police in Brenham. Prior to these roles, he held various command positions within the Pasadena Police Department for over 25 years, showcasing his expertise in patrol, criminal investigation, and community services.

Expressing his gratitude and enthusiasm for his new role, Goodman said, "I am both humbled and excited to have been selected to lead the Waco ISD’s Police Department and am grateful for the opportunity to serve its students, teachers, staff, and citizens."

In her statement, WISD Superintendent Dr. Susan Kincannon emphasized Goodman's extensive experience and community policing background, which made him an ideal candidate for the position.

"Because we work closely with local law enforcement, his work in community policing is invaluable," said Kincannon. "He comes highly recommended and is up to the task."

Goodman holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance from Stephen F. Austin University and a Master’s of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Houston. Additionally, he is a graduate of the National FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia, and holds multiple certifications in various policing practices.

A native Texan raised in Houston, Goodman came from a family deeply rooted in education. His wife is a first-grade teacher, and together they have four children and two grandchildren.

Goodman succeeds Interim Police Chief Stewart Russell, who stepped in after former Chief David Williams relocated to North Texas.
