WACO, Texas — A Woodway funeral home helped connect Central Texans to valuable resources at a Community Care Fair on Tuesday, May 14.
Grace Gardens Funeral Home hoped to give residents a chance to learn more about health screenings, preventative care, estate coaching, insurance plans, veterans benefits, medicare supplements and more, according to an announcement about the event on social media.
From 4-6 p.m., Central Texans could visit the funeral home, located at 8220 Woodway Drive in Woodway, to have "all their questions answered under one roof".
Funeral Director Kris Rhodes told 6 News it's never too late to look into resources pertaining to your future.
"Someone at your Sunday school class needs it, your neighbor needs it, your best friend's mother is going to need it," Rhodes explained. "Somebody you know at this moment needs the information we have here and it's just an incredible opportunity."
The event was free to attend and open to everyone, said the funeral home. Participating organizations reportedly included Alzheimer's Association, Gentiva Hospice, Powerback Rehabilitation, the Department of Veterans Affairs and many more.
After the event, attendees could stay for an Advanced Planning Seminar to learn more about the "emotional and financial benefits of planning ahead."
For those who were not able to attend, Amy Rossow with the 211 Call Center suggests people call 211, as the number provides resources to Texans about healthcare, mental health, education and more.
"Folks could come in and actually sit down with a benefit counselor and talk about what benefits do they have," Rossow added. "Questions about Medicare, Medicaid or for a mom who might need to go into the nursing facility."
