Waco fireworks store profits support church outreach goals

A portion of the Waco-based W Fireworks store sales support Deep Water Ministries and their benevolence outreach programs.

WACO, Texas — It's the opening week for W Fireworks as July 4 approaches and the shelves are stocked with everything from firecrackers to fireworks, with explosions of all shapes and sizes.

Terresa Hale with Deep Water Ministries is contracted through the store, hoping to sell out the products on the shelf.

"It's basically money we have available to help people," Hale said.

Prices range from around 50 cents for firecrackers to elaborate display fireworks at around $750.

Hale said for a seasonal job, customers are recurring shoppers and she said she's formed relationships throughout the community over the years.

"We have a lot of fun, everyone that comes out here just enjoys being together," Hale said.

Hale said Deep Water Ministries is given a proportional amount of the final holiday sale profits from W Fireworks come Fourth of July and New Year's Eve, two historically popular holidays in which fireworks are utilized.

She said their part of the pot goes to help support their church's benevolence outreach programs and the pop-up needs of their members.

"It's money we have available to help people," Hale said.

Hale said sales will start ramping up heading into the weekend, as Thursday marks one week from the 4th.

"When we started there was just this small part of the building and a tiny stand outside," Hale said, reflecting on their success over the past 13 years.  "We've stayed with it and put the signs out, advertised and now we have the big building, firebase stand, a couple other locations and we enjoy it."

Hale asks customers to come out early to ensure inventory they may be looking for is in stock and to heed warning from fire officials for shooting off fireworks in potentially dry conditions.

W Fireworks' location is 105 Bud Dr. Waco.
