Valley Mills Chief of Police resigns, Reflects on four years of service

One of the most significant milestones was the department's accreditation as a State Recognized Accredited Agency.

VALLEY MILLS, Texas — Chief Kelli Fikac has announced her resignation as Chief of Police for the City of Valley Mills on Saturday, August 24.

In a heartfelt letter addressed to the Valley Mills community on Facebook, Fikac expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to serve the citizens and highlighted several key achievements during her time in office.

One of the most significant milestones was the department's accreditation as a State Recognized Accredited Agency, a status Fikac and her team worked diligently to obtain and maintain.

“We’ve rebuilt this agency from the ground up, and I am proud of where we stand in service today,” Fikac wrote. “I’m also pleased to report that we saw a significant drop in the crime rate during my time, and together, we played a vital role in that achievement.”

Fikac, who retired from a Sheriff's Office in 2020 before transitioning to municipal policing, emphasized her commitment to unconventional community service. From fixing broken lawn mowers to launching the Blue Santa Program for local children, Fikac and her officers prioritized building strong community ties.

“Our innovative approaches to improve mobility in all types of Texas weather conditions ensured the safety of our kids, parents, and school faculty entering State Highway 6 from our schools,” she said. “We haven’t had any uses of force and that goes to show the value of having officers with the communication skills to de-escalate.”

Chief Fikac expressed a bittersweet sentiment in her decision to resign, citing a desire to pass the torch to someone with more energy to continue the work alongside the city's current leadership. She also shared her plans to enjoy retirement and spend time with her seven grandchildren.

“I look forward to seeing what God has in store for me next and I wish the City of Valley Mills my very best regards,” Fikac said.
