TEMPLE, Texas — Texans whose vehicles were damaged by the severe storms and flooding from April 26 to June 5 may qualify for assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
To be eligible, the vehicle's damage must have resulted from the disaster, making it unsafe to drive. Cosmetic repairs are not covered.
Other conditions for eligibility include:
- Assistance is limited to one vehicle. If there is a second functional vehicle in the household, the applicant must certify in writing that the damaged vehicle is essential for the household’s daily use.
- The vehicle must meet state registration and insurance requirements.
- The vehicle must be owned or leased (not rented) by the applicant, co-applicant, or household member.
- The damaged vehicle must be an approved type, such as a car, truck, SUV, or van.
Texans can apply for FEMA assistance in several ways:

- By downloading the FEMA App for mobile devices
- By calling the FEMA helpline at 800-621-3362 between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m.
-Those using relay services, such as video relay, captioned telephone, or other services, should provide FEMA with their service number.
- By visiting any Disaster Recovery Center.
