Have you seen purple containers around Waco? Here's what they are

The City of Waco said glass recycling containers are available at four locations around town.

WACO, Texas — The purple dumpsters you may have seen around Waco serve a unique purpose in the community.

According to the City of Waco, the large containers are part of the City's glass recycling program, which collects at multiple locations around town.

The containers are free and available 24/7 for glass bottles and glass food jars, according to the City. Only glass can be put in the containers, no bags or boxes or other materials.

The dumpsters can be found at four locations across the City:

  • Heritage Square in Downtown Waco, 151 N 4th St.
  • East Waco Library, 901 Elm Ave.
  • McLennan Community College in Parking Lot S, 1400 College Dr.
  • Goodwill Headquarters, 1700 S New Rd.

The City said glass is taken to Prestige Shredding and Recycling where it is recycled, keeping it out of the landfill.
