TEMPLE, Texas — People living along FM 2350 on the outskirts of Temple have dreaded stepping foot outside of their homes since tornadoes hit the area in May.
Eddie Roman told 6 News it's because people keep dumping tree debris and garbage in front of their homes.
"All the landscaping companies came and it looked like a frenzy," Roman explained. "They would start coming in at a certain time and they were dropping the trash like back-to-back, like trucks coming in."
Roman added that most times, people would dump debris directly on their property. Sometimes Roman and his neighbors were able to stop them from doing it, other times it would be too late to find out who was responsible.
"I know people don't want the stuff in their little neighborhood, but we live out there and we want the area clean," Roman added.
Roman said he contacted the City of Temple about this issue but nothing was done. He then filed a police report with the Temple Police Department to hold the illegal dumpers accountable.
6 News contacted Temple Spokesperson Megan Price about proper brush clean-up. Here is the information she provided:
Residents have the option to bring tree debris and garbage to the Temple Landfill or tree debris only to the Temple Solid Waste Complex.
Disposing at the landfill costs $32.41 per ton and disposing of brush at the Solid Waste Complex is free for residents.
The City will also be returning to normal brush and bulk collections on Thursday, Aug. 1, and regular guidelines will apply.
Fines for illegal dumping can reach up to $500.
Residents can visit the solid waste section of the City of Temple's website to check routes and learn more about the guidelines.
