COPPERAS COVE, Texas — Representative John Carter has announced a significant victory for the Copperas Cove Police Department's Mental Health Response Team.
Representative Carter secured $748,000 in funding within the Commerce, Justice, and Science Appropriations bill recently signed into law.
Drawing from his experience as a former judge, Representative Carter emphasized the strain placed on law enforcement when handling mental health crisis calls.
"As a former judge, I witnessed firsthand the added stress on police officers to respond to mental health crisis calls," Representative Carter said. "Having a trained team to respond to these difficult calls will help Copperas Cove residents suffering in crisis get the help they need and keep officers focused on community safety."
The grant signifies a milestone for the Copperas Cove Police Department, marking the largest single funding it has ever received.
"This grant will serve as the single largest amount of funding ever received by the Copperas Cove Police Department and would not have been possible without the help of Congressman Carter's Office," Chief Wilson said.
According to the Copperas Cove Police Department, they are grateful for the opportunity to help their citizens and improve the community.
