'It's a joy to see the kids come by' | Meet Mr. Halloween and his grand Halloween display in Temple

Kevin Keener has put on an at-home Halloween display for 30 years in Central Texas.

TEMPLE, Texas — When late September arrives, Temple man Kevin Keener, or as the neighborhood knows him, Mr. Halloween, is in full effect.

"The third week of September, I take off a week of work to be able to get everything set up correctly," Keener explained.

Since 1994, Keener has put on an extravagant Halloween display for his neighbors and passersby to enjoy for the holiday.

Each and every year, Keener has a special theme for his display. This year's theme is "Children of the Dead".

"I have a theme of kids because there's nothing creepier than kids and kids like to see little kids dressed up," Keener added.

Keener told 6 News he has spent an unspeakable amount of money each year constantly adding to his display. The hope for Keener is to go bigger and better every year he does the display while also entertaining the people who get to see it.

"I have neighborhood kids coming by constantly," Keener said. "It's a joy to see the kids come by and get to see it. It's entertainment."

There are over 75 fixtures on Keener's front lawn. Many of them are figures of bloody children, 12-foot skeletons, old tombstones and more.

Most of the fixtures Keener creates on his own and with some help from his daughter.

"Several of them I built," Keener explained. "I buy mannequins, or I'll get a PVC pipe and foam, buy masks and create them."

On Halloween day, Keener said for visitors to be ready for a "scary creature" to come out at any moment. Keener also works as an actor at the Silo of Screams Haunted House in Temple.

Keener's display is located at 715 Rivington Dr. Temple, TX 76502.
