Marlin coffee shop holding dog food, blanket donation drive

As of Jan. 16, Trigger Bear Coffee said they've received over 172 lbs. of dog food and 137 blankets to distribute to rescues and individual families.

MARLIN, Texas — Trigger Bear Coffee in Marlin is now accepting donations of dog food and blankets for rescues from the Marlin Animal Shelter and families in need.

As of Tuesday, Jan. 16, owner Michelle Ward said they had received 172 lbs. of dog food and over 137 blankets that they've distributed throughout the community.

"For me, especially during a weather crisis, my dogs are my first priority," Ward said. "There's a lot of stray dogs in this area and it's nice to shine a light on something other people might not have thought of."

Ward said the shop has been posting on social media platforms to get anyone in need of dog food or blankets to come by the shop or have supplies delivered.

Along with the help of several community members, Ward says they'll be accepting donations for as long as necessary.

"We even got some donations of horse blankets and we took those out to some horses that were tied up to an abandoned house," Ward said.

Christy Hansen brought dog food to the shop and has been helping divide the bags that have been delivered.

"Anytime dogs are in need we want to help out," Hansen said.  "If there's a need, they call us and we'll hop in to help."

Ward said they'll be accepting donations throughout the week and will be holding a dog food drive on Friday, Jan. 19 from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Ward said anyone who brings a 2 lb. bag of dog food or larger will receive a free small drink of any kind at the coffee shop.

"If we all could do more throughout the year we wouldn't have to go above and beyond at certain times so my goal is to continue this all year long," Ward said.
