Humane Society of Central Texas to cut ties with the City of Waco

The Humane Society of Central Texas will continue to serve McLennan County.

WACO, Texas — The Humane Society of Central Texas has started the process to terminate its contract with the City of Waco and leave the Waco Animal Shelter campus.

The two have been partnered for decades and they first achieved a No-Kill status of 90%+ for animals in their care in the Fall 2016. Over 18,000 pets have been adopted, 6,500 have gone to No-Kill rescue partners and 5,000 have been reunited with their families in their care, according to the Humane Society.

The Humane Society says they remain committed to McLennan County and will continue their work in animal welfare. They will provide "more comprehensive information" in the coming days, according to their announcement.
