WOODWAY, Texas — Helberg Barbecue broke ground on their new restaurant on Highway 6 on Saturday, March 9. It comes after a devastating fire destroyed the old building back in November.
Husband and wife, Phillip and Yvette Helberg say the feeling is overwhelming.
"This is a miracle for us to be standing here," Phillip Helberg said. "Getting to celebrate groundbreaking when you know three months ago, the old building was burning and we had to close for a month. That honestly, that would be it for a lot of small businesses."
As Helberg mentioned, it would have been a setback for most. With support from Central Texas, their family is able to push through.
"Yes, there's been a lot of hard work involved," Phillip Helberg said. "But this was not by our power. This is God working through people."
"It's all God's perfect timing in the end, whether or not it looks that way or feels that way, it is," his wife Yvette Helberg added.
At the ceremony Saturday, dozens of people came to show their support.
"It's amazing when obviously you find great barbecue but really everything they have on their menu is outstanding," Luke Holcomb, General Manager of Baylor Sports Properties, said. "They feed you know our fans, you know everyone on game days inside of our venues."
Holcomb has always had a great relationship with the Helberg's and is excited for what's to come.
"It's going to be outstanding to see this building get off the ground and feed even more people," Holcomb said.
It's this community the Helberg's will always be thankful for.
"We're so glad that we you know, we chose to open our business here and start a family here," Phillip Helberg said. "I couldn't imagine being anywhere else than being a part of this community."
Construction is set to begin next week. The Helberg's hope everything will be finished by 2025.
