Heart of Texas Homeless Coalition to host Project Homeless Connect in Waco July 9

The event will provide services such as employment assistance, haircuts, health screenings, pet care, housing information and more.

WACO, Texas — The Heart of Texas Homeless Coalition (HOTHC) is bringing its bi-annual service event back to Central Texas on Tuesday, July 9.

Project Homeless Connect will be held at the Waco Convention Center from 9-11:30 a.m., in an effort to provide services and resources to those experiencing homelessness or housing instability in the community, according to the Coalition.

Services and referrals that will be provided at the event reportedly include employment assistance, haircuts, health and vision screenings, HIV testing, COVID-19 vaccinations, housing information, hygiene items, pet care, social services, veteran benefits, dental screenings and more.

"Our goal is to provide convenient access to community resources to help facilitate movement out of homelessness," said the Coalition in a release about the event. "Through Project Homeless Connect efforts, we hope to not only have resources to help people move out of homelessness but also quality of life offerings to extend kindness and compassion to our houseless neighbors."

The HOTHC is a nonprofit that connects more than 20 social service agencies in Central Texas across six counties, according to the Coalition, partnering with member organizations that have services and programs that focus on things like housing, crisis intervention, psychosocial rehabilitation, case management, client advocacy and family education and support.
