COPPERAS COVE, Texas — Interested in law enforcement?
The Copperas Cove Police Department has opened applications for its Law Enforcement Explorer Program.
The program is meant to provide real-world, hands-on experience to young men and women who may be interested in the field.
Copperas Cove PD says the program will "emphasize the importance of community service", provide a teamwork-based environment and offer an opportunity to develop marketable leadership skills.
Once Explorers have completed the academy, they will have the opportunity to partake in scheduled ride-alongs with the department.
The Explorer program is open to anyone between the ages of 14 and 20. Applicants must agree to a background check and interview, must be willing to "lead, participate and learn" and must have satisfactory academic performance.
Training topics will include scenario-based training, officer safety, radio communications, firearm safety, traffic law and penal code.
