COPPERAS COVE, Texas — The City of Copperas Cove is giving the younger generation a chance to get involved by participating in the City's Youth Advisory Council.
Applications are now open to fill positions on the council, which the City says is intended to "define specific ways to address youth community issues and the development of activities and programs designed and promoted through the City and the Copperas Cove Independent School District".
The council, which is appointed by the City Council, will also "encourage and promote the education of youth regarding City government and importance of youth input, participation and responsibility", said the City.
To be eligible to serve on the council, youth must be between the ages of 13-18, must be an incoming freshman to a non-graduated senior, must be a resident of Copperas Cove or a student at Copperas Cove ISD and must be in good standing.
The Youth Advisory Council is reportedly made up of thirty youth members who serve two-year terms. The council meets monthly on the first Monday of each month or as necessary, the City said.
Applications can be found online at the City of Copperas Cove website, www.copperascovetx.gov, under “Forms and Applications”, or in person at 914 S. Main St., Suite D. Applications must be submitted to the office of the City Secretary for consideration by the City Council.
Those with questions about the application process can contact City Secretary Lisa Wilson at lwilson@copperascovetx.gov or (254) 547-4221, and those with questions about the council itself can contact Parks & Recreation Superintendent Caycee Hauck at chauck@copperascovetx.gov or (254) 542-2719.
