Combating overcrowding | Temple Animal Shelter celebrates grand reopening

The Temple Animal Shelter has been remodeled and renamed the "Heart to Home Animal Adoption Center".

TEMPLE, Texas — The grand reopening of the Heart to Home Animal Adoption Center in Temple marks a new beginning for Temple Animal Services.

The $5-million renovated building took almost two years to complete. Now, it is able to serve more animals and more people.

40 kennels for dogs and 21 for cats have been added, allowing the adoption center to house 72 dogs and 65 cats in total. Kennels for dogs are also climate-controlled and have indoor and outdoor access.

Along with the added kennels, there are three new play areas with shade and grass in the back of the building. People looking to adopt can bring the animal they hope to take home back there, play, pet and visit to make sure they are right for them.

The lobby area has locations where people can drop off donations and stations where workers can easily write up adoption papers.

The visiting area is easily available for people looking to see what their pet is like with them before they go home.

“The expansion will help accommodate the increase of animals brought to the shelter as Temple continues to grow,” said City of Temple Mayor Tim Davis. “These additional spaces are also beneficial for the animals, and they provide the opportunity for them to go outside more frequently with room to run and play.”
