New Waco little league ballpark complex scores home run for inclusivity

The new complex includes baseball and softball fields, as well as two specialized inclusive fields.

WACO, Texas — The City of Waco has knocked it out of the park with a new project, a sprawling little league ballpark complex!

According to the City, construction has been completed on the Challenger and Lake Air Little League Ballpark.

Not only is the new complex, located at 2015 N. 44th St., reportedly home to four baseball fields and two softball fields, but the City threw an extra curve by also adding two "specialized inclusive" fields to the facility as well.

According to Waco Parks and Recreation, the inclusive fields will be used by Challenger Little League, an adaptive program for individuals with physical or developmental challenges. The fields reportedly include rubberized base paths, pitcher's mound and batter box, wheelchair-accessible dugouts and a completely flat surface to eliminate barriers for wheelchair-bound or visibly impaired children or adults.

The City of Waco said it is excited for players to step up to the plate and swing for the fences in the new park.

"We can't wait for all the future fun in this safe and inclusive space for our young athletes to play and grow," said the City of Waco in a post on social media.

Waco Parks and Recreation has invited community members to a ribbon-cutting for the new facility at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 23. Visitors can check out the grounds and enjoy free ballpark treats such as hot dogs and caramel corn. For more information, visit this link.
