City of Temple opens applications for Hometown Heroes Banner program

The program pays tribute to those who are serving, have served or have given their life in the U.S. Armed Forces.

TEMPLE, Texas — The City of Temple is paying tribute to past and present military members with its Hometown Heroes Banner program, and applications are now open.

The City says the program "recognizes and pays tribute to those who are dedicatedly serving, have served or have given their life in service in the United States Armed Forces."

77 applications will be chosen to have banners created featuring the faces of local military servicemen and women, which will be displayed on light poles in Downtown Temple at the Santa Fe Plaza and along the Santa Fe Market Trail from mid-October to November 25, said the City.

To be eligible for the program, a person must be currently serving in the U.S. Armed Forces or be a veteran who was honorably discharged or gave their life in the service. The person must also be, or have been, a permanent resident of Temple or have immediate family, such as a spouse, parent, legal guardian, grandparent, child or sibling, currently living in Temple, the City stated.

Applications are open until August 28 and will be reviewed on a first-come, first-serve basis by the City’s Communications and Marketing Department, said the City. The fee for a banner is $75.

More information on the program, and the application, can be found at templetx.gov/hometownhero.
