TEMPLE, Texas — Central Texans will have multiple chances to learn or ask questions about the upcoming total solar eclipse this spring, as the City of Temple hosts three town halls to explain what residents can expect from the rare event happening on April 8.
The meetings will be held on Feb. 28, March 2 and March 12.
The first meeting, held on Wednesday, Feb. 28, will take place at the Sammons Community Center at 10 a.m.
The second meeting will be held on Saturday, March 2 at Grace Temple Ministries at 2 p.m.
The third meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 12 at the Mayborn Community Center at 6 p.m.
According to the City of Temple, residents can attend the public meetings to hear from Temple's Emergency Management Coordinator about what the eclipse is, how to view it and how to prepare, as well as ask any questions they may have.
Because Central Texas is expected to be in the path of totality of the eclipse, or the area where the moon will completely cover the sun, many cities, such as Temple, are planning for a large influx of people coming to watch the event.
Temple is listed as one of the best places in the United States to view the eclipse, according to the City, and because of this the City says it could see an increase in population for several days before and after the eclipse, which could cause concerns like traffic congestion and heavy cell usage.
The City of Temple's Emergency Management Coordinator and representatives from Temple Fire and Rescue and the Temple Police Department will reportedly be "present and available" to answer questions about these aspects of the eclipse as well, said the City.
