HARKER HEIGHTS, Texas — The City of Harker Heights has received the 2023 HIRE Vets Medallion Award from the U.S. Department of Labor.
The City of Harker Heights was awarded the gold medallion in recognition of its commitment to recruiting, hiring, and retaining American military veterans. Acting Secretary of Labor Julie A. Su recognized the city as one of the 859 recipients of this award during a virtual ceremony.
The HIRE Vets Medallion Program, established under the Honoring Investments in Recruiting and Employing American Military Veterans Act, is the sole federal award program that acknowledges employers' efforts in supporting veterans in their workforce.
"The City of Harker Heights is committed to developing world-class leaders," said a city representative. "We aim to mentor and nurture internal employees, both veterans and non-veterans, to become leaders in all city departments. As of December 31, 2022, 36% of veterans employed by the City of Harker Heights hold leadership positions, primarily within the Police and Fire Departments."
The City of Harker Heights joins a select group of 859 companies from across 49 states and the District of Columbia that share a dedication to not only hiring veterans but also providing them with long-term career growth opportunities that utilize the unique skills they gained during their military service.
