City of Killeen and Fort Cavazos partner for program to benefit veteran employment

The PaYS Program is designed to help soldiers prepare for a career after the Army by connecting them with employers.

KILLEEN, Texas — Fort Cavazos and the City of Killeen are partnering with one another for a program to benefit local veterans, according to a release by the City of Killeen.

On Jan. 30, Fort Cavazos and the City of Killeen reportedly signed a partnership agreement as part of the U.S. Army Partnership for Your Success (PaYS) Program.

According to the City, the PaYS Program is a partnership between the U.S. Army and a "cross section of private industry, academia and state and local public institutes", and is designed to help soldiers prepare for a career after the Army.

The PaYS Program helps veterans by connecting them with employers who understand the "skills, discipline and work ethic that service members bring to a business", said the City of Killeen, and is part of a long-term effort by the Army to help soldiers form professional relationships and encourage business owners to look to the Army as a valuable recruiting source.

According to the City of Killeen, 27% of the City's 1,300 employees are veterans. Of the 524 citizens hired by the City in 2021 and 2022, 142 were reportedly veterans.

The City of Killeen recently earned the statewide recognition of a "We Hire Veterans" employer from Workforce Solutions of Central Texas.

“We support our military community and have the tools to help ensure their success with our teams,” Killeen Mayor Debbie Nash-King said in the release. “Partnering with the Army through the PaYS program is a win-win opportunity for everyone involved.”

According to the City, the PaYS Program guarantees soldiers job interviews after their service in the Army, and provides America's youth with the "unique opportunity to simultaneously serve their country and prepare for their future".

Since the program began in 2000, more than 1,220 employers have reportedly partnered with PaYS.
